99c or something like that!!

Ladies if you run your fingers through your hair or weave( especially that weave) and your fingers come to a stop and you suddenly cant take them out and they stuck, you either got a very Cheap weave or you aint brushing your hair. If you think im being mean or whatever try let your BOYFRIEND RUN HIS FINGERS THROUGH THAT WEAVE and see that look on his face.

Any hair that aint Brazilian,Indian, Mongolian, Peruvian is considered Cheap hair these days, I mean we  cant all afford it. The usual weaves like the one they call 100% human hair is great too, u can tong it, curl it, straighten it and it looks more and blends in with our African kinky hair so why the hate. Plus you can run ur fingers smoothly through it . the market price is about R 80/10 USD  for 10’’ .

Come on now!!!

Black womens Hair HATES WATER

Black women have the Impression that water destroys hair, destroys the hair style and will do anything to avoid any contact with water whatsoever .  my hair hates  water,

·         when I relax my hair and it comes in contact with water it goes frizzy

·         When I don’t put my hair in a shower cap in the bathroom it goes frizzy

·         A steamy hot shower or a hot bubble bath moment is ruined continuously worrying about what the water could to the  hairstyle.

·         Black women wont swim because they are scared WATER will ruin their hair.

·         A sweaty work out at the gym will mess up a hairstyles

Those are just excuses !!!!!

I know women who wash their hair when they are about to get a new hairstyle  and only when it comes out 8 -10 weeks later. How disgusting!!!!You cant oil your hair every 2 days throughout the duration of a hairstyle and not wash your hair even once im sure ya’ll have come across hair that smells. Dust accumulates in your hair and with oil the hair will start to not looking very nice and worse smell. Greasy dirty hair doesn’t look nice either especially with weaves. Come on ladies WASH YOUR HAIR OFTEN!  Your scalp has skin its like not washing part of your body for like months, its so unhygienic .

I find that its mostly the people who get braids are the ones that will go for about 10 weeks without washing their hair as they believe washing the braids will make the braids look untidy and old. I been there thinking that too , it has nothing to do with water , it definitely has to do with your braider’s skills.

Ladies lets not make excuses to avoid wash our hair, moisture is good for your hair and water does just that.

OIL VS WAX

                                                                               VS

My scalp recently discovered and felt the differences between oil and waxed based hairfoods. I prefer oil based. I have in the past 2 years used mpl , castor oil and alma oil, and serum. I find waxed based hairfoods are a bit sticky and don’t leave room for your hair to be free and flowing( as my friend would say hair that blows with the wind). I just hate it when you get a nice weave done then you see the hairdresser dip her hand (yes hand) into that big jar of petroleum jelly to apply on it.Is it just me or what but I think only your real hair shoul d be oiled. It seems like , well to hairdressers the shinier the weave the better looking.

Sorry had drifted from the main topic. Waxed based hairfoods are a bit heavy usually after application , a blow dryer is used  to melt it in the hair. I have noticed that when you get braids and have been using wax based hairfood  u start seeing white dust particles accumulating under each braid which creates knots and makes your hair hard to comb, while  with oil your hair is more manageable to comb after the braids.

A little oil goes a long way and covers a larger surface area so you don’t need to use a lot as it can drip down your face if you use too much.

Oils are a great way to lock in moisture, and control frizz! Some oils can feel greasy, and leave your hair feeling weighed down. But here are some great oils that penetrate quickly and are excellent at nourishing from scalp to tip, without that residue feeling!!

I relaxed my hair!!!

Hey guys sorry I been a bit quiet and haven’t blogged in awhile. So let’s continue from where I left off. The last article was about my hairline update. I got my hair relaxed after that update. Before my final decision I was torn between relaxing or going natural again, so I choose relaxing. I have told you guys how my texlaxed  hair just wouldn’t relax so I gave my hair one more chance after I undid my weave. Ever since I started I relaxing my hair I had been self-relaxing it so this time I decided to let the hairdresser do it incase I might not have been doing it right and guess what, it came out so well it was actually over relaxed. I washed it after 2 days as I thought it was over-fried during the relaxing process so I wanted to make it a bit thicker. I used TCB super relaxer so since it was successful I will continue to use it from now on. My next relaxer  will be beginning of January 2013 which will mark my 12 weeks from the previous one. Currently I have a full weave. I begged my hairdresser to still leave out my hairline as its still in the process of recovery and im still contuining with my castor oil regime. Im a one product type of person so I only use castor oil in my hair and nothing else.

HairLine Update

So my hairline is slowly improving( too slow) , not very happy on the pace though so ive added some diprisone to the castor oil regimen. I know I promised I would show you what it looked like 2 weeks after I posted that hairline article. Well I removed my weave yesterday as  6 weeks is up. I left out my hairline so it would recover as it had been badly damaged. Below is a picture of my hairline before and after. im still not impressed with the hairline as it hasnt fully recovered so i will give it a few more weeks. I will continue with the Castor Oil and the Diprisone combination.

Stay away from Heat Styling Equipment!!!

I remember when I had my hair all natural, everytime I took my braids or weave out after washing it I would always use a ceramic hair iron to straighten it so I could tie it up just to see how much its grown. This is the same effect that people with relaxed hair get  after each relaxing treatment that they find the need to tie their hair or rather excited to see how long the hair is after relaxing. It’s a psychological thing that we think our hair is sum how longer after being relaxed.( I caught sum1 saying that the other day). Its not a childhood thing , I heard a grown ass 24 year old say that.

Each time I undid and washed my hair I found the need to blow dry then straighten it myself before I went to the salon for next hairstyle. I did this to make it more manageable for the hairdresser to plait and offcourse less pain when I got there. You know how some hairdressers comb hair, its like they tryna take it out from the scalp.

Anyway, though this hair straightening with a ceramic iron happened every  6 -8 weeks only I never realized the impact that that heat had on my hair. Heat styling products break your hair (relaxed or natural), they make it thinner and weak.  And this maybe the reason why you see no progress in your hair growth. If know it tempting when you have an open weave on and you have natural or texlaxed hair and want your real hair to blend in with the weave. If you are using heat stylers everyday or 4 times a week you are destroying your hair, try reduce it and when you do use them apply sumthing to protect your hair like serum or olive oil otherwise you will burn your hair.

For those with relaxed hair if you using the oils instead of wax based hairfood you will see that you don’t have to straighten your hair if using e.g olive oil or castor oil. As for the natural haired, its tempting I know ,oil your hair and reduce any heat contact  as much as you can, closed weaves are a better option.

When I took the decision to relax my hair Its cz I had been disappointed to see that my hair was now shorter than it was a year before, mostly due to blow drying and hair straightening.

Scalp sores

Scalp sores are usually caused by tight plaiting of braids or weaves, could be eczema or ring worms. After getting a weave a few weeks ago a week later I found myself scratching the back of my head a lot. It was actually unbearably painful I decided to tie my hair up as it was worse wen I just combed it up. I thought maybe I might have been reacting to the actual weave itself but didn’t understand why because I had used this weave before numerous times.

I decided that I would remove the weave before it got worse. Incase it was ringworms , I didn’t know. So I decided to wash my hair in DETTOL (anti bacterical) but the itching continued. So I headed straight to the pharmacy and she recommended I use STAR skin ointment(over the counter product).  I feel the great results  already

Dont you just hate Men with thick long Afros!!!

I just hate bumping into men with big long thick afros or guys with long hair. i just wonder how it takes guys a year or months to get a huge afro but for women its takes years if not decades. yeah even the Natural sisters struggle to get hair that long in a year. i think i need to get a few tips from these men. Eeish im shy though, they will give you tips but you should see that eye you get, he'll be busy talking to you while staring at your shungu pony.

A little more on that shungu pony

I have always been that long hair kinda girl everytime I take out my extensions or weave and see that my hair aint long enough yet to be exposed to the public I immeadiately think of meeting with the hairdresser to see what the next hairstyle is. As long as I don’t see that disappointing hair length im happy. This is not to discrimate short hairstyle, I admire from a distance but I got a small head so I tend to distance myself from short hairstyles. when i feel like tying my hair up even the days when it was long i felt the need to help it with a little bit of hair piece so that it looks a bit healthy.

6 weeks Rule!!!!

I've decided to have every hairstyle I get whether braids or a weave for 6 weeks nothing beyond or less(unless of course the hairdresser did a bad job then its gotta go off) I currently have braids on, that reach the six week mark tomorrow so i intend on taking them off so i give my hair about a week or 2 to breathe before my next hairstyle so im going to just leave it.  my hair is on that tip where its looks like it got so much growth and needs a relaxer but its naturally texlaxed as i explained in my previous article.  Im going to leave it like that since im still on the deciding on going au natural or try relax one more time. I was in deep thought the other day on why my hair could be texlaxed perhaps it could be my cheap self has been self-relaxing or perhaps its just like that as before i went natural it actually used to relax properly. so if i do decide to relaxer i will let a professional hairdresser do it. I chose 6 weeks as its enough weeks to get used to and enjoy the hairstyle and its safe. I cant keep braids beyond that otherwise you hair can break and it starts to look untidy anyway. It happened to me last year when i kept them for 2 months.

Anyways im a black girl, gotta be changing my hairstyle so i dnt get bored and because my african hair can change to anything. I've decided to hve every hairstyle i get whether braids or a weave for 6 weeks .

OMG my hairline receded so BAD!!!!!

After  having had my braids for 6 weeks I decided to take them out after I noticed my hairline receding. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I had combed it out into an afro. My hairline is so bad, im taking a break to let it breathe a little. While sitting in the gautrain last week  I caught myself staring at my hairline , its real bad that my the scarf I was wearing could hardly cover how bad it looks. My hairline is so weak, im still on my castor oil regimen so i will show you the improvement in the next 2 weeks.

Below is what my hairline looked like AFTER I took out the braids

The scarf could not even cover it.

Im so sad right now, a receding hairline is embarassing......

CASTOR OIL the magic formula!!!!!

I first heard about the magic formula CASTOR OIL after a page was suggested to me on my facebook. I havent looked back since. I got on and started on the castor oil journey last september but sadly stopped as I couldn’t afford paying 5US dollars for a 50ml bottle of castor oil. it was my bad on not stocking up when I left South Africa for Zimbabwe. after all a 100ml bottle of pure castor oil costs R10. it just didnt make sense that i pay 5 tyms more for half the milliliters. so i
switched to olive oil straight from the kitchen cupboard. olive oil is just as good but ill leave that to the next post. i have started that 12months castor oil challenge and this time im stocked for the whole period so ill take you with me through this journey. during the short period i used castor oil i had NO DANDRUFF what so ever. I used to have a very flaky scalp so I was amused to see none at all. Castor oil is also a hair grower, very good and quick on repairing the hairline. i also learnt that for people like me with very thin eyebrows applying castor oil daily before you go to sleep will help thicken them. so my day will cum when i can go finally get my virgin eyebrows tweezed and shaped as there’s currently and in all my 24 years there has  been nothing to tweeze. Small amounts should be used as it is very thick and can run on your face.

Im also using it on my face as i heard it helps have clear smooth skin. i will post before and after pictures in a months time so you will be able to see the results.

Castor oil comes in different flavours but only PURE Castor oil should be used

Here are the benefits of castor oil.

  • hair growth
  •  eliminates dandruff
  • eyebrow growth
  • clears the skin
  • stomach cramps
  • great for dry skin
  • laxative
  • treats boils, acne and fungal infections
  • helps with constipation
  • anti aging oil(better than in-store creams)
  • helps fade pimple spots and dark marks

REMEMBER a little oil goes a long way!!

That Receding Hairline!!!

A receding hairline is caused by plaiting your TOO TIGHT especially tight cornrows. The tighter the braids or cornrows the more it moves back. Its advisable that you leave that hair out when getting a weave as the hair on the hairline is very weak. Its embarrassing  when your hair blows in the wind and there no hair on that part but don’t worry ladies there are various ways to grow it back.
This is what a receding hair line looks like
Ladies if you hairline looks like this you need to give ur  hair  some rest and treat it. Its pretty obvious whats  causing it to move back so stop getting more and more tight corn rows.
Its accumulates over years or it could have been  caused by just one hairstyle.
 Causes
  • Long term wear of lace wigs
  • Tight cornrows
  • Tight braids
  • Tight weaves
Remedy
Castor oil
Pure Castor oil should be used and rubbed along the hairline about 3-4 times a week to make it a bit stronger. Its rather thick and small amounts should be used as it can drip down the forehead. I am currently using it myself to repair my hairline.
 Beeswax
Word around the salons of Harare is that beeswax, yes the beeswax used to lock dreads can be used to treat the hairline. I haven’t quite used it myself as I am on the castor oil tip due to its many benefits. Beeswax is very waxy, very think and hard but will melt in your scalp.

Some cases result in a condition called “ Alopecia,” a form of gradual hair loss, caused primarily by pulling force being applied to the hair
Alopecia is the loss of hair. Hair loss can be caused by different reasons, including damage to the hair shaft or follicles.
Lets treat our hair lines before its too late. When its too late it will end up looking like this

My hair type

Since Relaxing my natural  hair last year , I have noticed that my hair is not thoroughly relaxed. Was hoping for that silky shiny hair but it didn’t happen.

The first time I relaxed it I was not impressed so I had to wait a full week then relaxed it again but I still felt a bit rough near the roots. It only looked and felt  relaxed and shiny on day 1.
 I have Texlaxed hair.

"Texlaxed" hair is hair texture that falls between texturized curls and chemically relaxed, straight hair. "Texlaxing" is the intentional underprocessing of hair with a relaxer chemical, and is typically done to create volume, body, and texture in relaxed hair.

This is what texlaxed hair looks like after washing out the chemical relaxer.

You will notice the difference between your bone straight hair and texlaxed hair when washed  because your texlaxed hair will appear fuller against your thin, bone straight ends. Texlaxed texture is best seen on air-dried hair

It feels like you have just softened the ends and that new growth just wont relax. I have noticed that only my front hair ever actually relaxes. The rest doesn’t, my hairdresser was actually surprised that I had relaxed my hair as she thought it was still fully natural.

The reason why im still thinking of going natural again is due to my texlaxed hair, ive noticed my aunt and cousin also have hair texture like mine. My hair only looks relaxed and straight  only with the help of a ceramic iron after a blow dry otherwise theres no way you can tell its relaxed.

(we will take about the dangers of ceramic irons later)

The most Popular Texlaxing Method I have heard around the streets of Harare is washing your hair with Coca Cola.

Sia and her hair journey

My name is Sia and  the only time I remember getting my hair all cut was when I was 6 years old ,im 24 now and my hair has never been past my shoulders. When I mean past my shoulders I mean it been all the same length and going past my shoulders. My back hair grows faster than the rest. As any African woman ive always wanted to have long hair, im sure ive tried everything but I think I can safely say I have learnt new things in the past year and only started taking proper care of it last year and would like to start afresh but im still stuck between continuing with my relaxed hair or going natural again. You see in 2010 after my hair started  breaking a lot I decided to go the natural . After numerous relaxers and dying my hair twice ,my hair became too thin and rather too short for my liking. So I took the decision to not cut it all off but rather to just chop off the relaxed ends of my hair. That’s the pathway to natural I chose, short hair just aint me I just couldn’t imagine walking around bald. My Natural hair journey was awesome with just one major problem being that it was too kinky, like tht overly curly hair(mfushwa) that when u comb there just little curly hair everywhere and it was just the ‘ hard mashona type’. Everytime I washed my hair and needed to go get it plaited I had to straighten it first with a ceramic hair iron so it became more manageable. We will talk about ceramic irons at a later stage, but for now im warning you all against them whether you have natural or relaxed hair. My natural hair journey lasted till September 2011 but the length I attained during that short period was longer than the the length I grew from 1994 until 2009(15 years).

I love hair and constantly changing my hair , i hope you enjoy my blog as i take you through my hair journey and hope you learn from me and give me tips too.

A Shungu pony

A” Shungu pony” is when u tie your hair at the back of your head and theres not much to tie . its just sticking up in the air and theres not much hair for it to even face down.
