Hair Length Check

I don't really have a hair length t-shirt or something to mark my hair length yet, my hair is in a place where its not about the length yet but the focus is  more on my receeding hairline, though it is growing. Its been a journey with the receeding hairline. I been falling off the wagon these days wit the Shungu oil mainly because the extensions I have on totally hate oil. Its not 100% recovered but the improvement has been great. Below is a picture from when the journey intially started. The Journey Continues....................

Shungu Oil

Its been a while since I last spoke about castor oil that magic formula. I recently saw that people have been googling my page by typing "Shungu Oil" , so I think we should start calling it SHUNGU OIL. This month im on my 5th bottle of castor oil, my 6 pack is almost finished since I started using it in August i think. My hair line is taking time but there definately have been improvements as my hair is much longer. In terms of the hairline im still struggling with that part but it definately has improved since the first time i spoke about it . We are getting into winter now, though i would love to have had braids to protect my hair i cant as my hairline is still not ready, putting in braids would make me move 20 steps back so im still going to stick to my weaves and leaving my hairline out. I relaxed my hair properly(no self relaxing) last month so im going to take a 6 month break from relaxing as i also still struggle to get thick hair.

FLEXI RODS

Flexi Rods have been the best thing I have bought this year. who needs to go to the hairdresser for great curls anymore. if you are tired of straight hair and need a new curly look or want to add volume to your hair use flexi rods or bendy rollers as people call them. They are made from foam which means you can actually sleep in them without any pain of anything poking you unlike regular rollers.
They come in different sizes but i just think one size can make small curls or big curl. the more hair you roll on the flexi rod, the bigger the curls and you dont need any heat to get the curls. Once you roll the hair on, hold the two ends to lock it to secure the hair. Its so easy gone are the days of running to the hair dresser for everything.

If you are in Midrand , South Africa you can purchase them from Tiwirai 0817738431 at just R80 for 10. She only has the small size.

THE INVISIBLE PARTING

The invisible parting has been trending for more than a year now , well at least this part of the world. The invisible parting is a technique that creates a natural looking parting with your scalp. . It gives a natural parting sort of like the one a closure would give It looks good in the first week but then it starts to expand and looks like a part is missing and looks like an unfinished weave. I think if you have money to get that part re-newed every week then go ahead and get it done. All your hair is in cornrows underneath which gives you theflexibility to have any color you want.

Here is what it looks like when its done .

This is how the parting is created

This is what it starts to look like after a week

This is what an Invisible Parting should NOT look like

Brazilian Hair LESSON LEARNT!!!!

So during my Brazilian hair research I found out that there’s Processed and UNprocessed(Virgin) hair and there are different grades of hair. The processed hair is hair that has been treated with chemicals and often has a brand name. e.g Chocolate, or ebony Brazilian hair. Virgin hair is just virgin hair. It doesn’t come in a packet with a brand name. The fake Brazilian looked like this.
Fake brazilian hair is always packed like this

Beware as some retailers take them out the packet  and tie them into bundles. The virgin hair I bought had no brand name wasn’t in a packet, it comes in bundles like the picture below. I really cant explain what Brazilian hair looks like or feels like, I was fooled the first time.

Virgin hair is unprocessed and has never been in contact with any chemicals and is still in its natural form with its cuticles facing the same direction(meaning less tangling or no tangling) and can be coloured just as you would with your own hair and it lasts longer. The hair is also graded. The higher the grader the more luxurious the hair . 5A+ or AAAAA IS the highest grade I have managed to find on the market. So anything from AAA  and above is good quality, no shedding, no tangling.

I choose Brazilian hair because it has got lots of volume, density and its soft and bouncy and doesn’t look so frail like Indian hair. Its beautiful. I bought 3 bundles (300grams) . Its always best to buy 3 bundles as just buying 200grams wont look like it has body.300 grams will give you natural fullness. I have a small head so I like hair with volume. I went for an open sewn in to allow my hair line to recover but on my next sew-in I intend on having a closed sewn in with a fringe to give my hair time to grow in the front and as a protective style.

Having Brazilian Hair means no heavy oils in it(i.e castor oil). It will start to look greasy and ewww. Even without oiling it , it tends to get greasy from sweat and the natural body oils. So you need to wash your hair at least once a week or just spray some water on it and let it dry. It loves water. Ladies your hair should love water anyway. Clean hair just looks good and healthy.

Because Brazilian Hair doesn’t like greasy oils and I still want to maintain my own hair its often now difficult applying my castor oil. I do however apply castor oil on the hair that’s out daily so I apply on my hairline as its still in recovery .  As for the parts that’s  sewn, I mix the castor oil with water in a spray bottle and apply . It still requires me to wash my hair or spray pure water on it to remain grease free once a week.

Its been a minute.......

Its been a minute(maybe some hours) .Hello dear readers, Im sorry i havent blogged in a while.I got to tell you what happened to my hair in December first. So  I been on the open weave tip just so my hairline gets to recover and breathe a little. The hairline recovery journey has been long  and a little bit of moving a few steps back but its definitely been some improvement since that first picture I showed you back then. I swear by castor oil everyday till now. Im on my 4th bottle of castor oil since August. Heres a pic of my hairline on 23 November 2012.

So I've always wanted to have Brazilian hair, I just think it’s the best hair in the world, (IT BLOWS WITH THE WIND LIKE MY FRIEND WOULD SAY) and I just think its an investment cause you can re-use that hair many times maybe about a year or more depending on how you take care of it with the intial cost being the hair and the expense of the sew-in each time . As a Finance graduate I still think it works out to being cheaper than getting fake hair done every month , for 12 months in a year.
So anyway in December I finally bought the Brazilian hair, I chose Brazilian as I found the texture thick and beautiful and after doing my research before buying I ended up buying FAKE HAIR. I could believe it. It looked like nice the first few  days and as the days went by it started to shed so bad like I would have this ball of hair everytym I brushed it , I would put it in a plait just to avoid me losing more hair and on top of that it stopped blowing with the wind, I couldn’t even run my fingers through. Was a total waste of money, at least I had only bought 200g. My hair looking good always is priority to me, I am not well if my hair doesn’t look good.
My hair got lesser and it just ended up looking like candy floss so I took it out. On that Fake Brazilian hair I got it sewn in twice in over 3 days as the first time the hairdresser I went to did a closed sewn in which the cornrowns below were so tight I started to feel pimples on my scalp and had a headache for a whole weekend. I did a full sewn in weave as I had bought a lighter brown shade and wanted to protect my hair as it had been breaking. Wrong  move as it damaged the progress I had made with my hairline recovery, so I took it out and ended up getting re-sewn to have an open weave. My hair didn’t blend with it as my hair was black and the hair was light brown so I decided to colour that small part.
And then it started shedding till it got to the point where I couldn’t even put a comb into it.
I did more research , as I really wanted that hair , I been wanting that hair for two years now. So I managed to get in contact with a lady who sold me REAL BRAZILIAN HAIR that blows with the wind its been one month now and its just beautiful. In the next post ill tell you what I discovered in my research and what i learnt from my first fake purchase.
